Will Tournament Play Return to GOP3?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I joined the game after Big Win had already been stopped, but I and many others that I have spoken to, love tournament play and feel it is the main thing missing from the GOP3 experience.

I read that they cancelled Big Win because some players were cheating by creating multiple accounts and then read elswehere that it would only return if the developers found a way to solve that particular problem.

My question is, is that actually a possibilty, is some form of torrnament play likely to return to the game at some stage, or is the problem really unsolvable??

Is there anything in the pipeline, are they working on it?

Thanks

Hi @Goodkat, sorry about the late answer! We are still looking for another way of big tournaments! Any suggestions from you and your team are welcome :)

forgive me if im being stupid, im no game designer, but isn't the solution to this incredibly obvious? Can't you just restrict entry to the game to once per IP address?

IP addrss can be spoofed/proxied.

Make it one tournament buy-in per user/acct per week . This would greatly reduce the opportunity for chip transfer/cheating. It wouldn't completely eliminate it, but I think reducing possible chip transfers to one buy-in per acct (per week) would be a great improvement, and allow the return of the (much missed) tournaments. Once per IP would interfere wth families/housemates  while simultaneously inviting "gaming the system via proxy" by cheaters.

Compared to "standard cash games" Tournaments have as different a strategy as S'n'G, heads-up etc. It's possibly the second most popular format of Texas Hold'em (or maybe the MOST popular) in actual casino/cardroom games. The unlimited rebuys were the biggest problem. They were appealing to newcomers, but you won't find ANY casino/cardrrom offering that (due to the risk of abuse), even though casino/cardrooms have more/easier monitoring of a smaller number of players. A single weekly buy-in (with maybe ONE rebuy) is safer/easier.

Besides, a single weekly buy-in gives a tournanments "sense of occassion". I makes it feel special by making it something you can't do indiscriminately.

XYZABC198, I don't think it is that simple. for example I have a VPN subscription that would allow me change my IP address to over 25 different countries at the click of a button ...

ELON, I'm not entirely sure but I think the old tournaments may have been single buyin. The problem seems to be players who use multiple accounts, either at start or keep coming back with different one evry time they busted.

So ? You still have one IP adres at a time. So your stil limited to one buy in ?

We have chatted about it in the team and the short answer is that I'm fairly sure there is no way to stop the cheats.

But the thing is, all of us agree that it's still better to have the tournaments even with the cheating than to have none at all.

Some players in my team won the tournament anyway without cheating so it can be done.

The cheating is pointless anyway, as you don't win any real money, and at best they will end up with a number of accounts with relatively small amounts of chips spread over them that don't really mean anything much personal to them.

Kamma will always comes around and kick their a$$ in the end!!

And if I have to just keep beating the same player unbeknowns to me in order to win the 'big' then thats fine. Hopefully they'll just get bored with me beating them in the end ;)

not with multiple device ...

(edit. actually I don't know if this is right as VPN may change router Ip for all those device).

But they will find a way around no doubt

also, I don't know if your one buy-in was limited to a particular start time, or if you could come in at different times ...

Yes, but they would still need to play from multiple devices. If they want to go trough so much trouble to get e very slight advantage, let them 🙂

Somebody said there where unlimeted buy-ins. That's just nuts. One buy-in is much simpler and gives less advantage to cheaters.

Of course I know there are ways around IP blocks, that's a given, but the point is not to completely remove the cheaters but drastically decrease it, and I think a simple IP block would do that.

make it that you cant invite 'friends' to join you at the table in big win events. Than it would take forever to find the table that your other nick is playing at - and that would pretty much end that kind of cheating.
